Information for Referrers

Referrals are preferably received via secure transmission using HealthLink messaging (HealthLink EDI is dralexbo). Referrals can also be accepted via email or fax.

Please advise your patients that appointments are made via online booking. This practice will not contact patients to follow-up referrals. 

If referring patients for one-off Assessment and Management Plan (Medicare Item 291) or Review of Management Plan (Item 293), this must be specified on the referral.

Referrals

Dr Bowden does not provide the following services:

  • Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS)

  • Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT)

  • Ketamine therapy

  • Psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy

  • Medico-legal assessments, forensic assessments, or court reports

  • Independent Medical Examinations (IMEs)

Services Not Offered

Dr Bowden offers individual psychotherapy for patients where this is appropriate. Dr Bowden utilises a variety of psychotherapy modalities, including individual psychodynamic (psychoanalytic) psychotherapy and Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. Please note that all patients seeking to engage Dr Bowden for psychotherapy must first see Dr Bowden for an initial general psychiatric assessment to establish whether (and what type) of psychotherapy will be the best fit for your patient.

 

Please note that patients seeing a psychiatrist for intensive psychotherapy are generally eligible for Medicare rebates for each attendance, and do not require a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan. 

Individual Psychotherapy

Dr Bowden provides general psychiatric care for all mental health conditions to adults and adolescents (16 years and above). Dr Bowden provides new assessments and ongoing care for established mental health conditions. Dr Bowden has a special interest in trauma-related conditions, dissociation, functional disorders, medically unexplained symptoms, and neurodevelopmental disorders (neurodiversity). 

Dr Bowden also offers consultations for one-off Assessment and Management Plan (Medicare Item 291) and subsequent Review of Management Plan (Medicare Item 293) for eligible patients. When referring patients for this service, this must be specified on the referral.  

General Psychiatric Assessment & Care

Dr Bowden provides detailed specialist assessments for adults and adolescents (16 years and above) for neurodevelopmental conditions, including autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Dr Bowden does not offer neurodevelopmental assessments for children aged under 16 years. Patients wishing to discuss neurodevelopmental conditions should be referred for a general initial psychiatric consultation, and neurodevelopmental assessments may be organised thereafter. This assessment does not guarantee any diagnosis nor specific treatment. Please note that this assessment does not include any NDIS documentation or formal reports, which are billed separately.

Psychotherapy Session

Standard (50 minutes)

Fee: $600.00

Medicare rebate: $184.90

Out of pocket: $415.10

Please note individuals must first see Dr Bowden for a general initial psychiatric consultation. 

Individuals who receive ongoing psychotherapy will be entitled to higher Medicare rebates once they reach the Medicare Safety Net threshold. 

Concession Fees

Reduced concession fee rates are available for for individuals who hold a valid Pensioner Concession Card (PCC)Health Care Card (HCC), or Commonwealth Seniors Health Card (CSHC). 

This practice does not offer bulk billing. 

WorkCover & Other External Funding Sources

Dr Bowden is happy to see patients whose care is funded through WorkCover. However, please inform your patient that Dr Bowden does not bill WorkCover directly. Patients insured under Workcover or other external funding sources will be required to pay the consultation fee at the time of the appointment, and it is up to patients to submit their claims for reimbursement independently. Consultation fees are unchanged for patients seen under WorkCover. Please note that this consultation fee does not include any WorkCover reports, and these are billed separately. 

If your patient is eligible for reimbursement through private insurance, government programs, or other external funding sources, your patient will be charged directly at the time of the appointment and can submit a claim independently.
